We are facing a critical situation. It is now time for Camden to listen to the views of the local community and others that care about this area.
GOSH are planning to knock down and rebuild the 7 story main frontage building, with a new building of 11 stories. This will remove up to 60% of the light of the buildings on the other side of Great Ormond Street. More than 100 people live in these houses which are are the oldest and most historic in the area. For those of you who care about these things, it will also restrict listed views to St. Pauls.
Their construction management plan will see "42 heavy-load trucks per day" travel along Guilford Street for more, for 4+ years, slowing to turn past Coram’s Fields to drive down Lambs Conduit Street, passing The Lamb and Ciao Bella, making the tight right turn to head along Great Ormond Street. When they’re done on site, they will exit through the narrow streets of Queen Square and along Boswell Street.
The route is packed with independent businesses, and historic buildings at known danger from heavy vibrations. The route also coincides with the route our local primary children walk to school. All this to say, the threat to our children, the threat to the air quality for everyone in the neighbourhood, the threat to all our local businesses, and indeed the threat to cyclists and pedestrians coming through our neighbourhood are ominous.
This is all the more upsetting, because there are less harmful routes that would deliver what GOSH needs.
Sign the petition. We need as many signatures as possible before the 8th of February.
